Week 88 - Some nostalgia, a trip to the hospital and a baptism

Limon!
Hey guys!!

I'm alive!! You can all stop worrying now! (dad) haha. No but I'm sorry for not writing last week. We had to make a small trip to Limon to drop off the outgoing secretary and it took a lot longer than we were expecting. We left San Jose at about 11 and got back to Tres Rios at 10:30, and then I figured you all could survive without hearing from me so we just put off writing until today haha sorrrrrrrrrrry.

But anyway, this week was great! It's still been really different without President Hayes here. The last we heard is that they're still waiting on the test results so we're not sure how much time it will be still, but it could be another week or two or even another month. Just hoping everything goes well.

From last week I don't remember much honestly, but this week was awesome. So on Monday we took Elder Fuller to Limon which was super fun. It was a marathon of a trip, but it was great to see Limon again and to get to the beach for the Fourth of July. I even got to pass by Siquirres again which was crazy. So so so long ago haha.

Then on Wednesday it was back to that side of the country for a zone conference. President wanted to meet the missionaries out there and answer their questions and everything and it turned into a really good meeting. The spirit was really strong and it was topped off with some great pizza.

Thursday and Friday was some office work finishing up a project for President Arredondo and getting things ready for a baptism on Saturday.

Saturday. Baptism!! A few referrals from Gerardo. They're so great. The mom didn't get baptized because the man she's living with has to get divorced and here it's super hard to get divorced, but she's still doing everything else she can to follow her daughters. It's been so fun to see how excited Gerardo got for their baptism. He helped them a ton to get ready and to feel sure and to finally take the step.

Then Sunday. Another great day! Everything went pretty smoothly, nothing too exciting to report until the night rolled around haha. I had just gotten off the phone and I finally laid down and was so ready to sleep when I hear Elder Vasquez talking to someone and saying things like "No we can come now." and "Yeah we'll be there" so I knew something was up. It turned out that an Elder was feeling a lot of pain in his stomach that had progressively gotten worse the whole day and had signs of appendicitis. The mission nurse had gone with him to the hospital and President was going to go and wanted us to come too so we got changed again and took off for the Hospital at about 10:30. When we got there they had already got the elder in to check him out and a few minutes later they told us he needed to have his appendix removed. Which then started one of the longest nights of my mission, but one of the funnest haha. (I mean obviously we felt bad for the elder, but he was hooked up on morphine and was pretty relaxed about the whole thing so we didn't worry haha) but anyway, they took him into surgery and had to wait a ton of time for the doctor to show up, then to do more tests and then to prepare everything and then to operate and a whole bunch of things that took most of the night. Meanwhile, we passed the time telling stories, eating dinner/breakfast (I'm not really sure which it counted for at 3 in the morning haha), and just trying to stay awake. By about 4, they had finished the operation and he was just resting so President took us home and we rolled in at about 5. I've never been so happy to see my bed in my entire mission haha. But it was a cool story.

Then today we had to go to the other mission office to drop some things off and guess who I saw? haha ELDER DURAN! [Reese's trainer, who is now in the West mission] It was so crazy to see him there, but I was so pumped because I thought I wouldn't see him again before he finished his mission, but there he was. Made today awesome.

"PAPA!"
So anyway, that's about it from this week. Hope all is well back home! Love you all!
